Steve Vogel led his family to the Dominican Republic for the first time in the summer of 2003 and immediately fell in love with the people and the country. The brokenness of the Dominican people after hearing and receiving the Gospel, not only made the family more energized in going back every year to be the "hands" and "feet" of God, but also made Steve realize the physical and spiritual need there is tremendous. He says, "when you are walking in God's will and getting the chance to see your kids serve others, there is truly no greater feeling." Therefore, the Vogel's began to pray on how God could use the different gifts and talents He had provided them.
Steve's love for the game of baseball started at a young age, and it wasn't long before everyone knew he would be pursuing the game, coaching or playing. But God had even bigger plans than could be imagined. Steve and his wife Teri now live in Arizona.
"When we saw how important baseball is in the Dominican, God began to reveal a way we could use baseball to reach people for Christ. That is how Beyond the Game got started," Steve says. The Vogel's are excited about the future not only with using baseball, but also for other opportunities that God is already beginning to create in the Dominican Republic and all over the world.
